The AUWCL Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) is a student-run organization dedicated to closing the justice gap for most vulnerable members of our community. EJF provides stipends to Washington College of Law students who take unpaid summer internships with public interest organizations in the United States and abroad. Since it was established in 1989, EJF has given out over 1,000 stipends, growing each year with the support of the WCL community. Through EJF our students are able to deliver critical services to underrepresented members of our community, while gaining valuable experiences in the public interest sector. Your gift will help provide a stipend this year to a student taking an unpaid summer internship in a public interest organization.
"The EJF stipend was instrumental to my success and comfort in working a public interest internship over my 1L summer. Receiving the stipend, I worked at DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice where I developed strong professional relationships with my supervisors and was exposed to multiple areas of law and policy related to the District. In assisting advocacy efforts for D.C. residents, my work over the summer strengthened my ties to D.C. and led me to become interested in environmental law through the Anacostia River's remediation efforts. I also learned more about health law and its intersection with environmental law, which has been an area of interest for me since. With those discoveries, I have since pursued professional opportunities related to those fields of interest, which has made law school more fruitful. EJF helped open those doors for me and supported my public interest ambitions!" - 2025 Stipend Recipient
