26.2 for AU Track and Cross Country

Professor Boyle Passing the Baton to the Next Generation of Runners

For the second year in a row, former AU assistant coach and current professor Kevin Boyle will run the Marine Corps Marathon to support American University Track & Cross Country.

On October 25, Kevin will take on 26.2 miles with a goal that goes beyond the finish line: helping today’s student-athletes have the same opportunities that running created for him.

Kevin competed at St. John’s University on a track scholarship before a 26-year career in the U.S. Army, which included participation in the Army’s World Class Athlete Program. He later returned to coaching and served as an assistant with AU Track & Cross Country from 2015 to 2020. Although he transitioned to teaching full-time at AU, his connection to the program and its student-athletes has remained strong.

“I was very fortunate to attend St. John’s on a track scholarship. Our program had the resources to give us opportunities to compete, travel and develop as athletes. Today, college athletics is changing quickly, and costs continue to rise. I want to do everything I can to help this generation of runners receive those same opportunities.”

Kevin is putting his own support behind the challenge, matching donations up to $2,600, or $100 for each mile of the marathon.

Funds raised will directly support AU Track & Cross Country and help provide the resources student-athletes need throughout the season, including competition opportunities, travel, equipment and other program needs.

Head Coach Sean Graham has seen Kevin’s commitment firsthand.

“Kevin’s commitment to our athletes, both while they are at AU and long after graduation, is unwavering. He understands what the collegiate track and cross-country experience can mean in a student-athlete’s life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the time, energy and miles he is putting behind our program.”
